A paper calendar is still the easiest way to plan a month at a glance — on the fridge, beside a desk or in a binder. This generator builds a clean month or full-year calendar for any year from 1900 to 2200, marks US federal holidays (with their observed dates when they fall on a weekend) and can add popular observances, seasons and daylight-saving changes. Press print and only the calendar comes out, sized to a single letter-size page.
How to use the printable calendar
- Choose One month or Whole year.
- Pick the month and year, or step through months with Prev and Next. Today jumps back to the current month.
- Choose whether weeks start on Sunday or Monday.
- Tick the extras you want: US federal holidays, other observances, ISO week numbers and notes lines under a month.
- Add an optional heading, such as a family name or project, then press Print calendar.
Your display choices are remembered in this browser; the calendar always opens on the current month.
How the holidays are placed
Federal holidays come from rules rather than a fixed list, so the generator works for any year:
| Holiday | Rule |
|---|---|
| New Year’s Day | January 1 |
| Martin Luther King Jr. Day | Third Monday in January (from 1986) |
| Washington’s Birthday (Presidents Day) | Third Monday in February |
| Memorial Day | Last Monday in May |
| Juneteenth | June 19 (from 2021) |
| Independence Day | July 4 |
| Labor Day | First Monday in September |
| Columbus Day | Second Monday in October |
| Veterans Day | November 11 |
| Thanksgiving Day | Fourth Thursday in November |
| Christmas Day | December 25 |
When a fixed-date holiday lands on Saturday, federal offices observe it on Friday; on Sunday, the following Monday. The calendar shows the holiday on its true date and adds “(observed)” on the day off.
Worked example: federal holidays in 2027
2027 begins on a Friday. Two holidays fall on weekends: Juneteenth on Saturday, June 19 (observed Friday, June 18) and Independence Day on Sunday, July 4 (observed Monday, July 5). Christmas Day is a Saturday, so it is observed on Friday, December 24.
New Year's Day 2028 is also a Saturday, so its observed date is Friday, December 31, 2027 — it appears on the 2027 calendar even though the holiday belongs to 2028. In total, 12 observed federal days off fall in 2027.
Choosing a layout
Month view
Each day gets a box large enough to write in, with holiday names printed inside. A six-row month (one that starts late in the week, such as August 2026) uses slightly shorter boxes so it still fits on one landscape page. The notes area lists the month’s holidays and leaves ruled lines for reminders.
Year view
All twelve months appear as compact grids on one portrait page. Holidays are shaded and listed in date order underneath, which makes the year view handy for school schedules, shift planning and vacation requests.
Printing tips
- Turn off “Headers and footers” in the print dialog for a cleaner page.
- If your printer adds wide margins, choose “Fit to printable area” or scale to 95%.
- Shading prints in light gray; most printers render it even in draft mode.
To count working days in a month or year, use the working days calculator. The business days calculator counts days between two dates, the week number calculator explains ISO weeks, and the printable timesheet gives a matching sheet for logging hours.
Frequently asked questions
How do I print just the calendar?
Press Print calendar. The page hides everything except the calendar sheet and sets the paper orientation for you: landscape for a single month and portrait for a whole year. In the print dialog you can also choose Save as PDF.
Which holidays are shown?
The 11 US federal holidays set by 5 U.S.C. 6103, on their actual dates, plus an observed-date label when a holiday falls on a weekend. Tick the observances box to add days such as Mother's Day, Easter, Halloween, the start of each season and the daylight saving time changes.
What happens when a holiday falls on a weekend?
For federal employees, a Saturday holiday is observed on the Friday before and a Sunday holiday on the Monday after. In 2027, Juneteenth (Saturday, June 19) is observed on Friday, June 18, and Independence Day (Sunday, July 4) on Monday, July 5.
What are ISO week numbers?
ISO 8601 numbers weeks from Monday to Sunday, and week 1 is the week that contains the year's first Thursday. Many businesses in Europe plan by these numbers. When your calendar starts on Sunday, each row is labeled with the ISO week of its Monday.
Can I make a calendar for a past or future year?
Yes, any year from 1900 to 2200. Federal holiday rules are applied from 1971, when the Uniform Monday Holiday Act took effect; earlier years print without federal holidays.
