This calculator counts working days and work hours month by month for any year, removing weekends and US federal holidays on their observed dates, and lets you set your own workweek and hours per day.
How to use the working days calculator
- Enter the year.
- Set your hours per workday (8 for a standard full-time day).
- Choose your days off each week: Saturday and Sunday, Sunday only, Friday and Saturday, or none.
- Leave Subtract US federal holidays ticked to remove observed federal holidays, or untick it to count weekdays only.

How working days are counted
The calculator walks through every date of the year:
A federal holiday on a Saturday is observed the Friday before and one on a Sunday the Monday after (5 U.S.C. 6103), so an observed date can fall in a different year from the holiday itself.
Worked example: 2027
2027 has 365 days and starts on a Friday, so it contains 53 Fridays and 52 of every other weekday. Saturdays and Sundays account for 104 days.
Twelve federal holidays are observed on weekdays: the eleven 2027 holidays plus New Year's Day 2028, observed on Friday, December 31, 2027.
Working days = 365 − 104 − 12 = 249, or 1,992 hours at 8 hours a day.

2028 is a leap year with an extra weekend day, and it loses New Year’s Day to December 31, 2027 — so it still lands on 250.
Using the numbers
Salary to hourly
Dividing a salary by 2,080 hours is the payroll convention, but if holidays are paid and not worked, dividing by the actual hours gives your true pay per hour worked. The salary to hourly calculator does the conversion.

How many working days are in 2027?
There are 249 working days in 2027 for a Monday-to-Friday schedule after the US federal holidays — 1,992 hours at 8 hours a day. The count is one lower than usual because New Year's Day 2028 falls on a Saturday and is observed on Friday, December 31, 2027.
Why do people say a work year is 2,080 hours?
2,080 is 52 weeks × 40 hours, the standard figure for converting an annual salary to an hourly rate. It ignores holidays and the extra day or two beyond 52 weeks. Actual paid working hours after federal holidays are usually about 2,000 hours.
Which month has the most working days?
It changes each year with how the weekends fall. In 2027, March has the most, 23 working days. January and February have the fewest, 19 each: January loses two weekdays to holidays, and February is short and loses Presidents' Day.
Can I count a six-day or seven-day workweek?
Yes. Choose Sunday only as the weekly day off for a six-day week, Friday and Saturday for a Middle Eastern-style weekend, or none for a seven-day operation.
Are state holidays included?
No, only the 11 US federal holidays on their observed dates. Subtract any state, company or religious holidays your workplace also closes for.
