9 AM–5 PM working hours 10 PM–7 AM night everyone in working hours

Scheduling a call with a client in London, catching a product launch in Tokyo or checking when a webinar starts in Denver all come down to the same task: converting one moment from one time zone to others. This time zone converter shows a date and time across as many zones as you need, applies daylight saving time for the exact date, and lays out the day hour by hour so you can find a meeting slot that works for everyone.

How to use the time zone converter

  1. The converter starts at the current time in your own time zone. Edit the date and time to convert any other moment, or press Use current time to go back to now.
  2. Change In time zone if the time you have is for another place, such as a flight departure.
  3. Remove zones with ×, or pick one from the list and press Add. Up to 12 zones are shown; every IANA zone your browser supports is available beneath the common ones.
  4. Read each zone’s local time, date, abbreviation, UTC offset and difference from the source on the tape.
  5. Use the meeting planner below to compare all zones hour by hour. Working hours are shaded, and rows where everyone is between 9 AM and 5 PM are marked.

How the conversion works

Every conversion goes through Coordinated Universal Time (UTC):

UTC = local time − source offset    target time = UTC + target offset

The offset for each zone comes from the IANA time zone database (the “tz database”) that ships with every modern browser and operating system. It records the history and future rules of each region, so the converter knows, for example, that New York is UTC−5 in January but UTC−4 in July, and that Phoenix stays at UTC−7 all year.

Worked example

A team meeting is set for 9:00 AM on Monday, July 13, 2026 in New York.

  • New York is on EDT, UTC−4, so the meeting is at 13:00 UTC.
  • London (BST, UTC+1): 13:00 + 1 = 2:00 PM Monday.
  • Los Angeles (PDT, UTC−7): 13:00 − 7 = 6:00 AM Monday.
  • Tokyo (JST, UTC+9): 13:00 + 9 = 22:00, or 10:00 PM Monday.
  • Sydney (AEST, UTC+10; it is winter there): 11:00 PM Monday.

US time zones

Zone Standard time Daylight time Example cities
Eastern EST, UTC−5 EDT, UTC−4 New York, Atlanta, Miami
Central CST, UTC−6 CDT, UTC−5 Chicago, Houston, Dallas
Mountain MST, UTC−7 MDT, UTC−6 Denver, Salt Lake City
Mountain (Arizona) MST, UTC−7 not observed Phoenix, Tucson
Pacific PST, UTC−8 PDT, UTC−7 Los Angeles, Seattle
Alaska AKST, UTC−9 AKDT, UTC−8 Anchorage, Fairbanks
Hawaii HST, UTC−10 not observed Honolulu

When daylight saving dates don’t line up

The United States changes clocks on the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November. The European Union changes on the last Sundays of March and October, and countries in the Southern Hemisphere such as Australia and New Zealand move their clocks in the opposite direction. During the gaps the usual differences shift by an hour. In 2026, from March 8 to March 29 and from October 25 to November 1, New York is only 4 hours behind London instead of 5. Recurring meetings set in one zone appear to move for people in the other, and the converter’s date-specific offsets catch this.

Frequently asked questions

What time is 9:00 AM Eastern in London and Tokyo?

In summer, when New York is on EDT (UTC−4) and London on BST (UTC+1), 9:00 AM in New York is 2:00 PM in London and 10:00 PM in Tokyo. In winter, with New York on EST (UTC−5) and London on GMT, it is still 2:00 PM in London but 11:00 PM in Tokyo.

Does the converter handle daylight saving time?

Yes. It uses the IANA time zone database built into your browser, which records when each region changes its clocks, past and future. Offsets are worked out for the exact date you enter.

What happens with a time that does not exist?

On the spring-forward date, times such as 2:30 a.m. are skipped in zones like New York. The converter tells you and treats the time as 3:30 a.m. For a time that occurs twice on the fall-back date, it uses the first occurrence.

Can I share a conversion?

Yes. Copy link creates a URL with the date, time, source zone and chosen zones, so the other person sees the same comparison. Your zone list is also remembered in this browser.

Why are some offsets not whole hours?

Several regions use half-hour or 45-minute offsets, including India (UTC+5:30), Newfoundland (UTC−3:30), South Australia (UTC+9:30 or +10:30) and Nepal (UTC+5:45).
