Add Time to a Clock Time Calculator

Add or subtract days, hours and minutes from a clock time to find what time it will be, including the day it lands on.

Operation
Add a date to see which day the result lands on.

Show the work

  1. Start time 9:30 AM = 570 minutes after midnight.
  2. Add 7 hours 45 minutes = 465 minutes → 1,035 minutes.
  3. That is within the same day: 1,035 minutes = 5:15 PM.

“It’s 9:30 now and the drive takes 7 hours 45 minutes. When do we arrive?” This calculator answers that kind of question: add or subtract any number of days, hours and minutes from a clock time and get the resulting time in 12-hour and 24-hour formats, along with whether it lands on the same day, the next day or several days away.

How to use the add time calculator

  1. Enter the start time.
  2. Choose Add or Subtract.
  3. Enter the days, hours and minutes to move. Decimals such as 1.5 hours are fine.
  4. Optionally enter a start date to see the calendar date of the result, not just “next day”.

How clock arithmetic works

A clock wraps around every 24 hours, or 1,440 minutes, so adding time is arithmetic modulo 1,440:

result = (start minutes ± added minutes) mod 1,440    day shift = ⌊(start ± added) ÷ 1,440⌋

The remainder becomes the clock time and the quotient tells you how many days forward (or back) it is. Fractional minutes are rounded to the nearest whole minute.

Worked examples

Arrival time: 9:30 AM + 7 h 45 min. 570 + 465 = 1,035 minutes, which is less than 1,440, so the answer is the same day: 1,035 ÷ 60 = 17 h 15 min = 5:15 PM.

Across midnight: starting at 10:15 PM on Sunday, October 11, 2026 and adding 1 day 6 hours (30 hours). 1,335 + 1,800 = 3,135 minutes; 3,135 − 2 × 1,440 = 255 minutes = 4:15 AM, Tuesday, October 13.

Going back: 1:15 AM − 3 h 30 min. 75 − 210 = −135 minutes; add 1,440 to get 1,305 minutes = 9:45 PM the previous day.

12-hour and 24-hour clocks

The tape shows both formats. On the 24-hour clock, used by the military, hospitals, transit timetables and most of the world, afternoon hours continue past 12: 5:15 PM is 17:15. Midnight is 00:00 and noon is 12:00, which avoids the common confusion between 12:00 AM and 12:00 PM. For more conversions, see the military time converter.

Practical uses

  • Medication schedules: a dose every 8 hours starting at 7:00 AM falls at 3:00 PM and 11:00 PM.
  • Travel: add the flight time to the departure time, then convert to the destination’s local time with the time zone converter.
  • Cooking and charging: a 2 h 40 min slow-cook started at 4:50 PM finishes at 7:30 PM.
  • Shifts: a 12-hour shift starting at 7:00 PM ends at 7:00 AM the next morning.

If you know both clock times and want the length of time between them, use the time duration calculator. For adding up durations with no clock involved, the time calculator is the better fit.

Frequently asked questions

What time will it be 7 hours 45 minutes after 9:30 AM?

5:15 PM the same day. 9:30 AM is 570 minutes after midnight; adding 465 minutes gives 1,035 minutes, which is 17:15 on a 24-hour clock.

What happens when the result passes midnight?

The clock wraps around and the calculator tells you how many days later it is. 10:15 PM plus 30 hours is 4:15 AM, two days later.

Can I subtract time?

Yes. Choose Subtract. 1:15 AM minus 3 hours 30 minutes is 9:45 PM on the previous day.

Does it account for daylight saving time?

No. It adds clock hours. If the span crosses a spring-forward or fall-back change, the wall clock will read one hour later or earlier than shown. The time duration calculator can measure such spans with the change applied.
