The 3 times table from 1 to 20
3 × 1 through 3 × 9 belong to the core facts — every product of two one-digit numbers — that US standards expect students to know from memory by the end of third grade. Each row also gives the matching division fact.
| Fact | Answer | Division fact |
|---|---|---|
| 3 × 1 | 3 | 3 ÷ 3 = 1 |
| 3 × 2 | 6 | 6 ÷ 3 = 2 |
| 3 × 3 | 9 | 9 ÷ 3 = 3 |
| 3 × 4 | 12 | 12 ÷ 3 = 4 |
| 3 × 5 | 15 | 15 ÷ 3 = 5 |
| 3 × 6 | 18 | 18 ÷ 3 = 6 |
| 3 × 7 | 21 | 21 ÷ 3 = 7 |
| 3 × 8 | 24 | 24 ÷ 3 = 8 |
| 3 × 9 | 27 | 27 ÷ 3 = 9 |
| 3 × 10 | 30 | 30 ÷ 3 = 10 |
| 3 × 11 | 33 | 33 ÷ 3 = 11 |
| 3 × 12 | 36 | 36 ÷ 3 = 12 |
| 3 × 13 | 39 | 39 ÷ 3 = 13 |
| 3 × 14 | 42 | 42 ÷ 3 = 14 |
| 3 × 15 | 45 | 45 ÷ 3 = 15 |
| 3 × 16 | 48 | 48 ÷ 3 = 16 |
| 3 × 17 | 51 | 51 ÷ 3 = 17 |
| 3 × 18 | 54 | 54 ÷ 3 = 18 |
| 3 × 19 | 57 | 57 ÷ 3 = 19 |
| 3 × 20 | 60 | 60 ÷ 3 = 20 |
Patterns in the 3 times table
- Last digits. The ones digits of 3 × 1 to 3 × 10 are 3, 6, 9, 2, 5, 8, 1, 4, 7, 0 — all ten digits appear once before the pattern repeats, because 3 shares no factor with 10.
- Odd and even. 3 is odd, so the answers alternate odd, even, odd, even — odd times odd is odd, odd times even is even.
- Digit sums. Reduce each answer to a single digit by adding its digits and you get 3, 6, 9, repeating — a sign that every answer is a multiple of 3.
- A prime table. 3 is prime, so its table cannot be built by chaining smaller tables — learn it directly or split 3 into 2 + 1: 3 × 6 = 12 + 6 = 18.
A shortcut for multiplying by 3
Add the digits of any answer and the total is itself a multiple of 3 (3 × 8 = 24, and 2 + 4 = 6). It is a quick way to check your work.
Worked example: 3 × 14
Split 14 into 10 + 4: 3 × 10 = 30 and 3 × 4 = 12, so 3 × 14 = 42.

Related to the 3 times table
- 3 × 3 = 9, so the square root of 9 is 3.
- The factors of 3 are 1 and 3; they pair up as 1 × 3, so 3 appears as an answer in each of those tables.
- Every answer in this table is a multiple of 3; the multiples calculator lists them past × 20.
Frequently asked questions
What is the 3 times table up to 12?
3 × 1 = 3, 3 × 2 = 6, 3 × 3 = 9, 3 × 4 = 12, 3 × 5 = 15, 3 × 6 = 18, 3 × 7 = 21, 3 × 8 = 24, 3 × 9 = 27, 3 × 10 = 30, 3 × 11 = 33, 3 × 12 = 36.
What is the easiest way to learn the 3 times table?
Add the digits of any answer and the total is itself a multiple of 3 (3 × 8 = 24, and 2 + 4 = 6). It is a quick way to check your work.
What is 3 times 20?
3 × 20 = 60. Multiply 3 by 2 to get 6, then write a zero on the end.
Where is the 3 times table used in real life?
Any time you count equal groups of 3: a tricycle has 3 wheels, so the wheels in several tricycles come straight from the 3 times table.
