A lottery number generator does one honest job: it picks numbers at random so you do not have to. Choose a game, choose how many lines you want, and the tool fills each line with a valid, sorted set of numbers — plus the bonus ball where the game has one. Alongside the picks you get the exact odds, so you know what you are playing for.
How to use the lottery number generator
- Choose a game: Powerball, Mega Millions, a classic 6/49 lotto, a daily pick-5 game, Pick 3, Pick 4, or Custom.
- Enter the number of lines you want (up to 50). Every line on the slip is different.
- For a custom game, enter how many main numbers are drawn, the highest main number, and the range of the bonus ball (0 for none).
- Press Generate numbers. The gold ball on each line is the bonus ball.
Always check your state lottery’s current rules before playing, because ball ranges and prices occasionally change.
How lottery odds are calculated
Main numbers in a draw game are chosen without replacement and their order does not matter, so the count of possible tickets is a combination. A bonus ball drawn from a separate drum multiplies the total:
where n is the highest main number, k the number of main balls and b the size of the bonus-ball drum.
| Game format | Calculation | Jackpot odds |
|---|---|---|
| Powerball: 5 of 69 + 1 of 26 | 11,238,513 × 26 | 1 in 292,201,338 |
| Mega Millions: 5 of 70 + 1 of 24 | 12,103,014 × 24 | 1 in 290,472,336 |
| Classic lotto: 6 of 49 | C(49, 6) | 1 in 13,983,816 |
| Daily pick-5: 5 of 39 | C(39, 5) | 1 in 575,757 |
| Pick 4 (exact order) | 10⁴ | 1 in 10,000 |
| Pick 3 (exact order) | 10³ | 1 in 1,000 |
Pick 3 and Pick 4 games draw one digit at a time from 0–9, so digits can repeat and order matters for a “straight” bet.
Worked example: five Powerball lines
You generate five different lines for one drawing.
- Each line has a 1 in 292,201,338 chance of hitting the jackpot.
- Five different lines cover five combinations, so the chance improves to 5 in 292,201,338 — about 1 in 58.4 million.
- Buying more lines raises your chance in direct proportion to the number of lines, and your cost rises the same way.
To put the jackpot odds in perspective: if you bought 100 lines every drawing, three drawings a week, you would expect to wait about 19,000 years for a jackpot.
What a random generator can and cannot do
It can produce picks free of human habits. People over-choose birthdays, lucky numbers like 7, and visual patterns on the play slip. A generator spreads picks across the full range, which may slightly lower the chance of sharing a jackpot if you win.
It cannot predict the draw. Lottery drawings use certified mechanical or electronic systems tested for randomness; no pattern, past result or “hot number” analysis changes the odds of any combination. A line of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 is exactly as likely as any other.
Playing responsibly
Lotteries are entertainment with a negative expected value: on average, players get back less than they spend. Set a budget you are comfortable losing, never chase losses, and treat a ticket as the price of a daydream. If gambling stops being fun, the National Council on Problem Gambling offers free, confidential support.

Numbers are random and are as likely to win as any other combination — this tool does not improve your odds. Game formats shown reflect the rules in effect when this page was reviewed; confirm with your official lottery before buying.
Frequently asked questions
Do random numbers improve my chances of winning?
No. Every combination has exactly the same chance of being drawn, whether you pick it yourself, use a quick pick or use this generator. The tool simply saves you from choosing, and its picks are truly random.
What are the odds of winning the Powerball jackpot?
1 in 292,201,338. That is the number of ways to choose 5 white balls from 69 (11,238,513) times the 26 possible red Powerballs.
What are the odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot?
1 in 290,472,336 under the current format: 5 white balls from 70 (12,103,014 combinations) times 24 possible Mega Balls.
Can random picks help me avoid sharing a jackpot?
Somewhat. Many players choose birthdays (1–31) and patterns, so combinations like those are more likely to be shared if they win. Random picks spread across the whole range, which can reduce the chance of splitting a prize, though they do not change the chance of winning.
Are past winning numbers more likely to come up again?
No. Each drawing is independent, and the balls have no memory of earlier draws. 'Hot' and 'cold' numbers are patterns in past results, not predictions.
